During the past half century, African-Americans have become the most unmarried people in our nation. More than two out of every three black women are unmarried, and they are more than twice as likely as white women never to marry. A big reason for this is that black women are surpassing black men in education and career success, and most black women would prefer not to marry at all than to marry a man with the same education and earning potential outside their race. The culmination of a decade of research by a Stanford law professor, Is Marriage for White People? traces the far-reaching consequences of the African-American marriage decline, supported by data and poignant real stories shared by black women throughout the nation.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was an interesting read. I saw the author on several shows during his promotion of the book and the topic certainly caught my attention. As an African-American woman, I agree with his viewpoint in the book that the percentage of unmarried African-American women is higher than other races, due mainly to the fact African-American women tend to only look within their race for a potential marriage partner. In his book I thought the author made a very good case as to why African-American women should also consider males from other races as potential partners. I know I am now open to this viewpoint,
as it increases my chances of finding a suitable marriage partner. Although my preference is to have an African-American male as a marriage partner, I also believe that true love and marriage should not be limited to color or race!
