Getting out of your own way isn't easy!

Before leaving for London on an ill-fated business trip, Jules Sinclair had an argument with her beau, Marcus, where terrible things were said. Some were said only to hurt the other person, others were heat-of-the-moment slips of the tongue that could never be taken back. Now Jules is headed toward the home she shares with Marcus in Beverly Hills…and the only thing London has cleared up is that she does not want out of the relationship. But even if she finds the magic words to repair all of the harm, will Marcus be there to hear them when she puts her key in the door? It’s the perfect storm that only Jules could have created for herself. By figuring out how she got into this mess, can she save what’s left of her future with Marcus?

WHY WE LOVE THIS BOOK

Tamara Houston’s debut novel is quite delightful and refreshing. We get to know Jules, a heroine who is a strong and smart career woman. She’s vulnerably revealing about her quest to figure out which way is up in her personal and professional lives. She is funny, stylish, cosmopolitan and most importantly authentic. At times, her voice sounds as if it would fit in well with one of the endless conversations I’ve had with girlfriends, replaying scenarios and contemplating alternative endings of their and my real-life love stories.

EXCERPT

“I accepted the offer and left for London within the week. My phone met an unfortunate end somewhere along the West Side Highway. Smashing it was the only way I could stop his calls from coming through and my temptation to allow explanation. My office was no longer safe, because he camped out there now in order to explain, so I resigned effective immediately. I left my apartment as is, had my intern forward my clothing, and went to a hotel because I didn’t know which of our friends to trust. I walked a lot above Twenty-first Street in the hopes that the city would heal me as it had many times before. But this time she failed me. On the plane I thought of my mother’s warning about being mindful of what details one confides in girlfriends about their relationships because instead of celebrating your happiness one will be contemplating how to get what and who you have.”—from Waiting for Jules
