Twelve years ago a young girl named Elizabeth allowed a seductive man with a Russian accent to lure her away from the nightclub where she’d been drinking in defiance of her controlling mother. The events that followed changed her life forever.
Now, a reclusive woman known as Abigail Lowery lives in a small town in the Ozarks working as a designer of sophisticated security systems. Yet for her personal security, she uses a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. Police chief Brooks Gleason finds her intriguing. But his fascination is frustrated by Abigail’s need for protection. What is the story that she’s gone to such pains to hide? Nora Roberts’ The Witness is a pulse-pounding page-turner impossible to put down...or forget.

Good story, gripping reading. Could not put the book down. I always enjoy her books but as usual she relays too much sex.

I am sorry to report that this was one of the most foul language books I tried to read. The story line was very good but trying to skip over the bad language decreased the enjoyment of reading. If you have a good story, I don't think you need to mess it up with this type of language. I will not be reading any more of Nora Roberts books.

Held my interest all the way through. Too heavy on romance and not enough mystery and intrigue for my taste. It was a well written romance novel.
