The Promise

Barack Obama’s presidency offered Americans a fresh start after years of partisan division. Has the president delivered on his ambitious promise? In this inside account of the breakneck speed with which Obama began making critical decisions, Newsweek editor Jonathan Alter reveals much of the administration’s inner workings and behind-the-scenes details of major historical events of the last year. We are there, in the West Wing, in the situation room, on Air Force One and face-to-face with world leaders and political opponents.

A fascinating volume that makes clear the colossal scale of Obama’s challenge, The Promise: President Obama, Year One shows us how this president’s first year in office is simply like no other.

better than I thought it would
June 14, 2010

When I started to read this for a couple of minutes, I thought it would be a rehash of the news articles from Newspapers and TV News Media. Was I wrong. I have found this book to be exceptionally written. I found some places a little hard to read but it causes me to pause and ponder what Mr. Alter has written. The book gives me a greater understanding of the issues that have occurred over the first year of President Obama's Administration. Especially when it come to the Health Care bill, and other issues of importance and where our treasury dollars are going to.
