Famed writing team and authors of What Doesn’t Kill You and Gotta Keep on Tryin’ bring us Uptown, where the heir to a real-estate empire plans to erect a luxury building in Harlem. But when money, power and property are at stake, family bonds and loyalties could get pushed to the edge….
A 27-year-old Avery Lyons returns home to care for her mother when she and Avery’s uncle are involved in a serious car accident. Avery’s dismayed to find the Harlem of her childhood just isn’t the same—and that the dynamics of her dysfunctional extended family still are… Avery’s cousin, Dwight, will do anything to realize his father’s dream to build Dixon Plaza, a high-rise slated to go up on Central Park North. He’s got the will, and he’s got the means. But what he doesn’t have is Avery’s consent or cooperation. She’s also inherited a piece of the property, and she’s not willing to do anything more to compromise the integrity of the neighborhood. Then a family secret surfaces when a reporter uncovers the truth about some of the family’s shady dealings…. Will their already stretched-to-the-brink family ties survive the new wrinkle? Or will their real-estate empire crumble before their eyes?

This book is so dull and boring. When I start a book that's hard to get into, I always ask myself - "Do I care what happens to so and so?" NOT. Could care less about what happens to these characters. There are too many other novels out there for me to struggle through, waiting for the "good part".

This is an ok book but it doesn't get interesting until you're more than half way through it. Get it from the library or borrow it from a friend, but don't buy it.

I love these authors so much that when I saw this book recommended for summer reading I added to my cart for purchase then I read the reviews and went back to see what the book was about only to realize that I already have it and did not finish it. I agree that this book was very boring I didn't get past the first chapter.
