Precious Jones is obese, HIV-positive and living in a physically and sexually abusive household. At 16, she’s pregnant by her father—again. Aside from heartache, she has nothing but a fierce determination to break free of her parents and change her life. She starts by enrolling in a GED program, where she meets the tireless Blue Rain. Much more than a literacy teacher, Miss Rain shows Precious how to read and write, but also encourages her to keep a journal—which becomes the vehicle readers have to experience Precious' horrendous beginnings and miraculous transformation. An urban classic, Push is intense, heartbreaking and frightening—a remarkable story that will continue to haunt and inspire you long after you’ve put it down.

I understand what you mean about the spelling and I agree but Precious was basically Retarded. But I ABSOLUTELY agree with you.

DID NOT LIKE IT. NOT AT ALL.

I still haven't see the movie, and don't really feel the need to. The book was vivid enough for me.

How'd this book get such high ratings? The spelling was so bad you had to read it 2-3 times before you understood the sentence. And yes, I know how to speak and read ebonics but this was over kill! It was a short book but so boring I thought it would never end! I just don't get the hype?
