Sister Souljah’s runaway bestseller The Coldest Winter Ever introduced readers to Midnight, a brave, smart, humble and dangerously attractive young lieutenant to underworld businessman Santiaga. Now, she brings readers into the heart and mind of this silent, fearless, loyal man as he maneuvers against the odds and defends his way of life in this powerful story about love and loyalty, strength and survival.
Raised in a wealthy, powerful African Islamic family, Midnight is comfortable, confident and protected. However, his father never lied to him about the difference between the extreme love that he received at home and the dangerous challenges of the world. When Midnight’s father’s empire is attacked, he sends Midnight to live with his mother in the States. On the streets of Brooklyn, New York, young Midnight uses his African intelligence and Muslim mindset to protect his loved ones and reclaim his wealth and way of life.
Sister Souljah will sweep you from continent to continent and culture to culture with her “raw and true voice” (Publishers' Weekly) that both soothes and arouses, and Midnight will remain in your mind and beat in your heart for a lifetime.

I read the Coldest Winters ever and liked it, but I was always curious about Midnight (good guy, yet bad) and then, this came out. I loved it. It really showed how love could come in all shapes, sizes and languages. And I really admired the way they communicated with one another and ACTUALLY understood one another with limited words. HIs love for his family, his wife, and protecting them to no limits was undeniable. Good read...LONG BOOK, but it's worth it.

I read this book in two days. The book gives insight into Midnight's values. It is about Midnight before Coldest Winter Ever but the second part of the book comes out this November. It is literally the best book I've ever read. The characters will stick with you. I definitely recomend it.

This book was really good. It was well written. i read it in two days and i really miss the characters. This book did not have anything to do with her book the coldest winter ever. i really enjoyed reading it. Sister Souljah would you please bless us with another great book.

I loved this book. True, one might think that it is somehow tied to or part 2 of Coldest Winter Ever (my favorite book btw) but it is not. This book takes place before Midnight even meets Winter. It really gives you a look at how Midnight became the man that he is. I enjoyed the book and can't wait to see what happens next.

IF YOU READ THE COLDEST WINTER EVER THEN THIS WILL NOT BE A BOOK TO READ. MIDNIGHT ISN'T THE SAME PERSON BECAUSE HE'S YOUNGER BUT YOU COULD SEE WHERE HE GETS HIS VALUES FROM. BUT MOST OF ALL IT DIDN'T TIE INTO THE COLDEST WINTER EVER AT ALL. I'M MAD BECAUSE THE BOOK WAS ALL ABOUT HIM BEING IN LOVE WITH A ASIAN CHICK. IT WAS HARD TO READ AND WAS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT.
