I own almost every single work Silverstein has done and his series of poetry is perhaps the reason I love his books. They are a great way to introduce children to poetry and to get them to enjoy it, because often poetry can be vague, abstract, and hard to follow for young readers. However, Silverstein's istn't and it's humorous and loveable. It's deffiantly a must have for your child's library!

I love the book were the sidewalk ends. I love Shel Silversteins poems. They are brilliant. I think his poems are witty, silly, and funny. I especially enjoy the poems were he ends it with a surprise. I think those ones are the best. I like to snuggle up in my couch and read all his poems from his tongue twister to his short but sweet poems.
I really enjoy the twists at the end of his poems like in the poem standing. I think its cool how he says all the things that the person in the poem is doing then adds a funny line at the end that twists the story around. Another poem that I think was very clever and funny was the silver fish once again this poem has a last line that twists around the poem and it just made me laugh when I read it. I like the poem the fourth also, because of the visualization. He has an awesome description about fireworks on the fourth of July, but shel doesnt just say there fireworks you must interpret it.
Dont you agree this book is good?

I remember reading this book as a child and thought it was hilarious. My daughter has recently discovered this collection (and some of Silverstein's others) and will read them for hours. One of the great things about these books is that they are entertaining for a broad age group-- my 8 year old loves them, and they still make me laugh.

This was my very favorite book from my childhood, and now I read it to my daughter- a lot! I highly recommend this book, as well as any other Shel Silverstein book.
