Each Shel book my son received as a child is safely tucked away in a special trunk to be explored by my son and his children! The books are timeless, hilarious, thought-provoking, and they give the parent, babysitter, reader, the opportunity to discuss silly things without the child (and sometimes the parent!) realizing that there is a lesson hiding behind the cool drawings. They are great for using character voices to spice up the reading experience. I'm becoming a bit senile, I think, but find myself reciting some of Shel's short poems at random times. "There's too many kids in this tub" livens up the beginning of meetings, and "The Woodpecker
pecking on the plastic tree" shows empathy and acceptance when a friend is having a hard time. I swear, I've taken my medications today!

I purchased this book for my grandchild for a Christmas gift. She and I read most of it then. We enjoyed the poems but I must say the time spent with her reading was the best. She's like her Nana, an avid reader. It's books like this that make a child want to read more.

This book has become THE classic poetry book in our home. It taught my children to read through its poetry and rhyme, and now my grandchildren are discovering this crazy madman and his hilarious poems. They adore the funny and usually odd themes that keep them coming back for more. They are even memorizing their favorite poems. Anyone who loves reading will love "Uncle Shelby" and his wild collection of zany prose.

I puchased the set of the Shel Silverstein books together. Loved these books as a child and am looking forward to enjoying them with my children. Until my 3 year old shows interest...I will just enjoy them. :)

This has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. I purchased this book for my 5 year old daughter and she loves them. This will be a classic for many more years to come. I recommend this book for a child for any ages.
