Do you have trouble forgiving people who’ve mistreated you? Most of us do. That’s why Bishop T.D. Jakes offers us this informative and empowering invitation to Let It Go.
In this book, Jakes compassionately explores the importance of forgiveness as a spiritual truth universal to all Christians. “Offenses will come,” Jesus said (Luke 17:1). But our ingrained ways of reacting to offenses can be holding us back.
Jakes shows how forgiveness helps not only the person who behaved wrongfully, but also the one who was hurt. “The poison of unquenched anger,” he points out, “doesn’t infect the perpetrator but only incarcerates the victim.” Holding on to past resentments saps our energy and our creativity. But if we learn how to forgive, we find that we can heal, our conflicts can be resolved, and our relationships can flourish. Tomorrow can be better than today when we learn to put yesterday’s misdeeds behind us.
Change isn’t easy, even if it’s the best thing for us. But fear not—Jakes supplies clear guidance and specific advice about how to forgive the pains of the past and receive the blessings of the future. No matter how big or small the injustice, with God’s help, you’re always bigger!
